In 1994, Corney and Barrow’s operations in Scotland underwent a significant transformation through a merger with Whighams of Ayr, one of the UK’s oldest wine merchants. This partnership not only enhanced Corney and Barrow's presence in the region but also brought together centuries of expertise in the wine industry. Whighams, established on Academy Street in Ayr, brought with it the historical 1766 cellars. These cellars were specifically constructed to store imported wines, ports, and sherries brought from across Europe. Designed with the express purpose of maintaining optimal conditions for wine storage, these cellars have withstood the test of time and continue to serve not only as functional storage spaces for long-term customer use but also as an impressive venue for wine tastings and events. Today, these cellars are still actively used to store wines for both private clients and trade customers. They also offer a unique and atmospheric setting for events, providing a historical backdrop that enhances the experience of wine tastings and other gatherings. This blend of historical significance and modern functionality underscores Corney and Barrow’s commitment to preserving heritage while serving contemporary needs.
